INSULATING SECOND FLOOR
OF A BUNGALOW

QUESTION FROM OAK PARK, MI

I have a 1100 sq foot bungalow in Oak Park. I have some insulation in the attic now, but am looking to add and to be certain it is ventilated properly.

   ANSWER FROM THE INSULATION DOCTOR:
Generally on bungalows you can only insulate the first floor ceilings behind the kneewalls.  That is assuming there is access and the storage area is not floored.  The reason we normally cannot insulate the 2nd floor ceiling is that it is sloped and has a flat area in the center which is not accessible.
